When You Hide Depression but Don’t Know Why

Here is another article for you.

What’s it like to hide depression, to have very select people know what you’re going through? It’s terrifying. It’s terrifying to hold this secret within your soul, to know its power but still not be able to reach out for help or even truly open up about it.

I know people care. I know if I called one of the people who know, they would talk to me until I have nothing left to say. They would try to understand. They would do their best to make sure I feel better. But none of this is truly getting down to healing the depression.

I know I should not be keeping this all bottled up and hiding it from the people I care for the most. But I still do, and I don’t know why. Maybe I’m scared to talk to someone who could really help me because it will make it real. And knowing that it’s real is … Read More

How Active Play Benefits My Son With Autism

Here is another wonderful article for you.

I’ve found that anything I can do that causes Abram to be proud of his accomplishments helps his growth and productivity increase.

In 2019, it’s my aim to continue providing Abram with these types of opportunities by incorporating new forms of active play into his daily routine that empower and allow him to take pride in himself. While no two children on the autism spectrum are the same, below are three forms of active play we’re looking forward to in the new year:

1. Music/Music therapy

Abram’s music lessons allow him to be in control in a form of active play that he wants and chooses. His music therapist works through his stubbornness, helping him voice his needs through music and musical games and allowing him some sense of control … Read More

What to do if your child doesn’t want to follow Chinese New Year traditions

It’s Chinese New Year and the family is all excited to usher in the Year of the Pig with treasured traditions – except for your child. She refuses to wear red, doesn’t want to make small talk with her relatives or play with her cousins (she’d rather remain glued to the iPad). And refuses to […]
